Here’s a question for all you parents out there, do you like your kids School Photos? As a mum myself, I always wait with baited breath when it comes to the kids photos time! What will the hair look like? Are they smiling or doing THE smile? (You know the one I’m talking about I’m sure. The over-cheesy grin or the eyes scrunching because they’re smiling in that awkward way!) That perfect French plait that your daughter asked you to do for photo day, that she then decided to take out before they were even taken…. The sparrow nest effect that was captured on camera… 🙄
Now don’t get me wrong, I do feel for photographers doing the school photos. After all, they will have around 300 children (if not more) to photograph. Plus siblings before school. That’s a lot of kids in a day! They will be pressed for time I’m sure. Luckily I can take my own photos of the kids.
When a friend of mine asked if I would do her school photos, I immediately said yes! Then another friend asked the same. And then another… (You can see where I’m going with this!) The photos above are two special boys. They are both non-verbal and attend a specialist school. If you have SEN children, you’ll know the feeling. It’s difficult to get them to just look and ‘smile’ at the camera, especially if it’s somewhere that they are not familiar with. So Lauren asked me if I could come to their home, which is literally around the corner from me.
I spent about half an hour with them in total. First, letting them settle and get familiar with me. Then (with a little help from mum and dad) I started taking photos. And as you can see, the photos came out amazing! Mum was literally in tears when she viewed them. Which also made me well up! 😂But her reaction? That is one of the many reasons I LOVE what I do! It’s not just about taking pictures! No, it is so much more than that! Capturing the memories, the milestones, even something as simple as a school photo. These are all precious moments.
With a little patience and kindness, anything is possible! So I ask again, do you like your kids School Photos? I know Lauren definitely does 🥰
